Moonlight and Magnolias
Auditions Friday June 27th 7:00 – 9:00 and Saturday June 28th 10:30 – noon.
Premise: David Selznick has just fired the director of Gone With The Wind and shut down production. He has one week to work with his new director and writer to produce a workable screenplay. As such he locks them in his office with him for 5 days and nights, with nothing to sustain them but bananas and peanuts.
Actors should be able to portray the actual age of these real life characters:
David O. Selznick – the producer – age 37 – brilliant, manic, mercurial, driven. It is his vision to bring this bestselling novel to the screen, and it may financially break him to do so.
Victor Fleming – the director – age 56 – a rugged individualist and close friend of Clark Gable, more interested in the technical craft of making films than the ideas behind them.
Ben Hecht – the screenwriter – age 46 – a former Chicago newspaperman, and noted intellectual, his reputation as the best script doctor in Hollywood is what has led Selznick to recruit him. Possessor of a quick, acid wit.
Miss Poppenguhl – Selznick’s secretary – prim and efficient, a long-suffering servant to Selznick’s genius and intensity. Age should be in 20’s to early 30’s.
