How to Get Involved

Our middle name is “community” which means that 95 % of the theatre’s work is done by volunteers. Does theatre seem to you to be all about acting? Think again! There are all sorts of skills to be used and jobs to be done in order to support the work of our theatre. Do you like to paint? Do you like to build things? Do you play a musical instrument? Do you enjoy doing makeup? Do you sew? If so, and you have a little spare time, there is most likely an opportunity at RCT for you to contribute your talents. Would you like to learn a new skill, perhaps working with theatre lights, sound, props, or costumes? We are always happy to introduce folk to the intricacies of the technical side of producing our shows. In any given season there are people operating the boards, working backstage, or in the dressing rooms who were newcomers only a few months previous. Even our most experienced people are always learning something new.

Now perhaps your real forte is acting or you have always wanted to try your hand at drama. In such cases, please be aware that open auditions are held for every show and it is a rare production that does not have a newcomer or two in the cast. In other words, there is a very good chance that if you are willing to audition, you may end up on stage – particularly if you are flexible in the roles you will accept!

Finally, there are jobs to be done in “front of house” like ushering, tending the box office, working intermission concessions, etc., as well as the occasional week day need for office help or costume shop assistance. In short, if being part of one of our state’s best community theatre’s appeals to you, we most likely can find a place for you. Here are some of the ways that you can get involved:

  1. Call the theatre (962-8011) during business hours and make your interests known.
  2. Drop by the theatre (East Main St at 10th) during business hours.
  3. Fill out the Volunteer form and bring or mail it to Richmond Civic Theatre, 1003 E. Main St., Richmond, IN 47374.
  4. Ask to be on our richmondcivitheatre.org e-mailing list to stay abreast of audition notices and other volunteer needs at the theatre.

We cordially invite you to come and join the fun that is The Richmond Civic Theatre!
